Opportunity Title : Stigler Center Journalists in Residence Program 2027

The Stigler Center Journalists in Residence Program is designed for journalists who want to deepen their understanding of the relationship between politics, economics, markets, business, and public policy.

The program provides an immersive learning experience for journalists working across different forms of media and coming from different parts of the world. During the approximately 12-week residency, participants are based at the University of Chicago’s Hyde Park campus and have the opportunity to audit classes, attend Stigler Center events, collaborate with other journalists, and interact with scholars and faculty members.

Participants can take advantage of the academic environment at Chicago Booth while continuing to develop their journalism skills and explore important economic and political issues. The program also provides opportunities for participants to contribute to ProMarket, the Stigler Center’s publication.

Through seminars, workshops, lectures, classroom experiences, and networking activities, journalists can gain a stronger understanding of complex economic issues and develop connections with academics and media professionals from around the world.

Successful participants can receive a comprehensive package of financial, academic, and professional support. Benefits include:

Participants are expected to actively engage in the academic and professional activities of the residency. Applicants should be prepared to meet the following expectations:

Financial Preparedness

Participants must have sufficient personal funds to cover their living expenses for up to the first month of the program because the stipend may take as long as one month to be processed and disbursed.

Academic Participation

Participants are expected to:

• Audit three classes during the program.
• Participate actively in classes.
• Complete required readings and assignments associated with their selected courses.
• Take advantage of the academic resources available through the University of Chicago.
